While perusing automotive literature, it’s inevitable that you’ll find an article that covers a “highly anticipated” model or update. This phrasing, though it may be true, rests on the cusp of triteness – we’re self-admitted perpetrators. Working with a brand like Mercedes-Benz, nearly every release is anticipated to the highest degree; that begs the question, “How do you accurately capture feelings for a major announcement?”
Mercedes-Benz has released a few minor teasers for its AMG® GT, but the most recent video fed us the most important facts: the specifications. This amplified our excitement to palpable levels. We wanted to get our hands on the wheel and ignite the engine for the rapture derived from its exhaust note. Our experience test-driving an AMG® was definitively not lost upon us, and the excerpt below perfectly captures the sounds and images that flooded our memory when we watched the video for the AMG® GT:
“The basic truth is this: The AMG® is not for the faint of heart, nor is it intended to be parked in a garage for its owner to one day boast how few miles he or she has acquired on it. An AMG® is meant to be driven. Driven hard. Driven fast. If you can fulfill that simple criteria, then you’ll find no better model of car than an AMG® to sate your appetite for automotive power.”
This GT is called the M178, and it is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. Mercedes-Benz has quoted it as being able to crank out 503 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mounted lower and further back in its chassis, which improves weight distribution and handling – providing it the means to strike at the Porsche 911’s jugular.
We’ll be certain to update you on further announcements regarding this exciting new AMG® model. And if you haven’t visited Mercedes-Benz of Cary, it is the only place you can find AMG-certified technicians and models. Come check out the AMG® Center; it makes a convincing argument for why you should give it a whirl.
