If, by chance, you are scheming a coup in a developing nation, you may want to take notice. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 550 will soon be offered in an armored form. The German automaker has once again partnered with Transeco, a company with 28 years of vehicle-armoring experience, to safeguard high-profile occupants from attack.
The new S-Class will feature an armored cage encapsulating the passenger compartment and an armored undercarriage that can absorb the explosive capability of two DM51 grenades. In fact, owners can even modify the trunk to protect the battery and electrical components. Weighing more than 7,300 pounds of curb weight, the suspension, brakes, and door hinges are modified to properly function. The S550’s twin-turbocharged 4.6-liter V-8, which blasts out 455 horsepower and 515 ft-lb of torque, and run-flat tire system will help ensure quick escape from super heroes, revolting citizens, or competing super villains.
For those wanting extra protection (possibly for being extra evil?), optional features such as reinforced rear and front bumpers and a self-sealing fuel tank are available.
If you happen to not be a villainous fiend, Mercedes-Benz of Cary has a full range of standard S-Class cars in addition to a full inventory of all other new and pre-owned luxury cars you’d expect from the standard bearer of automotive excellence.
