Mercedes-Benz has always been about excellence. Through years of research and development, its innovations have engendered envy in competitors and awe in consumers. While some progress has been purely mechanical, Mercedes-Benz maintains focus on the human element of the industry: the driver. That is why on January 1st, 2014, at the San Diego International Auto Show, the German automaker announced that its newest DMV-certified Driving Academy would be based in San Diego itself, with classes beginning in the coming weeks.
The Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy takes a unique, three-pronged approach: develop decision-making skills, educate parents, and facilitate driving skills to create stronger and more responsible drivers. As Carolyn Duchene, director of the academy, pointed out, parental involvement is pivotal to foster an effective learning experience. This remains imperative for children in the United States as studies reveal that they are four time more likely to suffer through a significant crash than adults are.
Precedence has set in motion an unwavering commitment by Mercedes-Benz to create safer roadways. Naturally, the academy is a wonderful extension of the company’s efforts.
The San Diego launch, however, is not the first. In 2011, Mercedes-Benz created the first international teen driving school in Los Angeles, which now also serves Orange County.
The academy’s intention is to supplement current driver safety policies, such as the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) rules. The curriculum of GDL includes compulsory driver’s education in a classroom, online, and on the road, which is subject to mandatory supervised practice. When a student begins driving alone, there are specific restrictions on driving privileges. These skills and competencies coupled with other real-time and classroom work will certainly benefit everyone on the road.
The Mercedes-Benz Academy will provide complimentary Parent-Teen Workshops prior to the inauguration. Each workshop presents helpful information regarding GDL laws and restrictions, DMV requirements, and guidance for choosing the best driving school.
While most other brands merely meet safety standards, Mercedes-Benz exceeds expectations with safety features and reaches out to the community to create safer roadways. That’s a benefit from 2013’s best-selling luxury brand in the United States.
